We've Got Your Back

Did we mention we’ve done this before? We offer a variety of convenient services designed to ease your moving experience. Learn how you can bundle these services and increase protection on your items through United’s Straight Talk Advantage program.

Packing

Our full-service packing crews go through extensive training to learn the best methods of packing carefully and efficiently to make sure items arrive safely at their destination. In addition, we offer a partial-packing service with the flexibility to choose to only pack certain items.

Small Shipments
(Full-Service Containers)

If you’re moving long-distance, the weight of your shipment plays a big factor in the cost of your move. If your shipment only weighs 5,200 lbs. or less, our Full-Service Container Program could be a great alternative to a traditional move.

The benefits of moving with a full-service container include:

  • Labor from moving experts
  • Valuation protection included
  • Day certain load/delivery
  • Fast and reliable transit for small shipments
  • Cloth pads included
  • Low storage rates
  • Exclusive use
  • 21 days use/scheduling flexibility
  • Service during peak periods

Specialty Items

Our experienced crews are equipped to move almost anything in your home. However, certain items such as pool tables, hot tubs and washer & dryer units require a third-party company. Our team can coordinate those services for you as part of your move.

Cleaning Service

We can arrange a professional cleaning service to do move-in or move-out cleaning. That’s just one less thing to worry about on move day.

Custom Crating

Fragile items may need to be secured and crated before our crew can load them on the truck. We offer custom crating services to protect any specialty goods such as large mirrors, valuable artwork, glass tabletops or antiques.

Electronics Service & Installation

Have your computers, televisions and stereo systems disassembled and packed before the crew arrives and then reassembled in your new home.

Debris-Removal

Simply call us within 30 days of your delivery at your new home and we’ll come pick up your empty cartons and any used packing materials.

Real-Estate Services

When you move with United Van Lines and Planes, you can earn cash back on the sale of your old home and the purchase of your new home with CityPointe® Real Estate.

FAQs

Looking for more information? Here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions

How do I pick a moving company?

Get quotes from 3 different movers. Look at their reviews and make sure that each company is licensed, insured, their crews are background-checked and they can provide you with the “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” brochure (required by federal law). It is also important that you understand your pricing options and all of the components of the estimate provided to you – do not choose a moving company that requires a deposit prior to your move.

Can I track my shipment?

The best way to check on the status of your items during transit is by contacting your move coordinator. In addition, customers can track their shipment via United’s personal online move planner.

What does valuation coverage mean?

Valuation coverage is the limit of liability for any damages during your move that your moving company will discuss and arrange for you based on your needs. A common misconception is that valuation means insurance, which it is not; valuation is simply a tariff-based level of motor carrier liability. If you desire insurance, you should consult your insurance company representative about available insurance coverages. We do not offer insurance.

Am I protected against loss or damage while my goods are in transit?

Yes, but how much protection you have and its cost to you depend upon the "valuation" option you choose – Basic Protection/ Released Value Liability (60 cents per pound per article), or Full-Value Protection. Our crews do everything they can to prevent damage to your belongings but in the rare instances where items get lost or incur damage, it is important to understand the type of coverage you have. Basic coverage, which is provided at no additional charge means that our maximum liability for loss or damage to any article in your shipment is 60 cents multiplied by the weight of the article. What does that mean? If you have a 50” flat screen TV that weighs 25 lbs. you will receive $15.15 to cover the damage. With Full-Value Protection, if any article is lost, destroyed or damaged while under United Van Lines' interstate authority, it will either 1) repair the article to the extent necessary to restore it to the same condition as when it was received by United or pay you for the cost of such repairs; or 2) replace the article with an article of like kind and quality or pay you for the cost of such a replacement. An additional charge applies for this option and is included upfront in every estimate. United will determine the appropriate settlement method to be used during the claims process.

Is there a right way to pack my own boxes?

Yes! A good pack job means not packing your boxes too heavy for the crews to handle, wrapping items carefully, including lots of cushioning in each box, using sturdy cartons that close completely, not combining items from different rooms in the same box and clearly labeling each box. We can provide you with videos and guides that show the correct methods of packing your items!

Do you sell boxes and packing materials?

Yes! We have any supplies you might need to prepare for your move. Check out our Boxes page!

What is Updater?

When you move with Planes, you’ll receive complimentary access to Updater, a time-saving tool that helps streamline the moving process. On a single platform, customers can easily check-off a variety of cumbersome tasks that come with moving – things like transferring and connecting utilities and home services, forwarding mail with the USPS, notifying business and accounts with your new address, receiving special move-related discounts, and sending digital moving announcements to friends and family.

What are my options to get a quote for my move?

To ensure you get an accurate quote for you move, we can schedule a virtual survey, which can be done via video chat right from your mobile device, or an in-home survey where one of our reps will come out to your home to provide a free, no-obligation estimate. Simply give us a call or fill out estimate form on the website to get started.

How much does a local move cost?

Local moves are charged at an hourly rate, so cost is based on the time it will take to move all of your belongings from your current home to your new home.

How much does an out-of-state move cost?

The cost of an out-of-state or “interstate” move can vary greatly but the majority of the cost is based on how far you’re moving and the weight of your shipment. Other factors that affect the cost of your move depend on any additional services you need, such as packing/unpacking, additional valuation coverage, third party services, storage, etc.

Are your crews background-check?

Yes. Any Planes crew member that enters your home on move day or handles your items is background-checked, properly-trained and certified.

What are “third party” services?

Our crews can move almost anything in your home but there may be certain items that require special service or attention from a third party. Examples of items that require a third party service include: pool tables, mounted flat screen TVs, washers and dryers, and specialized exercise equipment. We can arrange to have a skilled third party company come out to your home and service those items.

What items can’t the movers take?

Hazardous items that pose a potential risk while in transit should not be packed into your shipment. Items considered hazardous include: aerosol cans, ammonia, ammunition, car batteries, charcoal/lighter fluid, charged scuba tanks, chemistry sets, cleaning solvents, darkroom chemicals, fertilizer, fire extinguishers, fireworks, fuels/oils, household batteries, kerosene, liquid bleach, loaded guns, matches, nail polish/remover, paint thinners, paints/varnishes, pesticides, poisons, pool chemicals, propane tanks, rubbing alcohol, sterno fuel, and weed killer. Perishable items such as food without adequate preservation, frozen foods, open or half-used foods, plants, produce and refrigerated foods should not go on the truck. Personal items of great sentimental value or importance should travel with you. If you have any questions about certain household items before your move, just ask one of our team members!

Can I choose my exact move dates?

Absolutely! You can pick your days for loading and delivery when moving locally. However, if you are moving in the summer months, it is best to plan ahead and secure your dates as far in advance as possible. When moving long-distance, you can typically pick your pack and load dates but delivery is dictated by the distance traveled and the weight of your shipment. It may be more difficult to get your first pick of dates in the summer months (when a lot of people are moving), but it will certainly help your chances to plan well in advance of your move!

How long does it take for my items to be delivered?

It can be as early as the next day, or up to a few weeks if your shipment is smaller and you are traveling a farther distance. For long-distance moves, your coordinator will provide a delivery spread and keep you updated daily while your items are en route to destination.
